Due to the snow and mud at the range the ICORE match for Sunday 3/22/2020 has been moved to Sunday 3/29/2020
Tentatively all 4H events are cancelled until May 15 due to the COVID-19 virus. This is a fluid situation and may change depending on conditions. Please check back often to get the latest event info.
Your Board of Directors are always looking to make WCFW a safe environment for all our members, guests and event participants. As a result, we have spent many hours with a team to look at any recent safety violations and concerns on the range. The BOD accepted and put into law these updated Range Safety Rules at the December meeting. We hope that they are easier to understand and abide by so that all of us can remain safe on the range no matter what we are doing. Remember, it’s ultimately up to YOU as a member to ensure the safe operation of firearms wherever you are on the range. Click on the link in this post or visit the RESOURCES page to explore all the PDF documents related to range safety and more. Remember the 4 Cardinal Rules of Gun Safety even when off the range no matter where you are.
From your Weld County Practical Shooters President.
The weather forecast for Galeton looks a bit rough this Sunday, so there will be no WCPS match for December. We’ll try again In January.
I hope all of you out there enjoy the coming holidays and get to spend them with the people you care about.
The Steel Challenge Match regularly scheduled for Saturday 12/7 is cancelled due to range conditions.
For more on our current conditions see an update from Groundskeeper Jan…
All South Berms are ready for foot traffic only… The drive ways to the berms have been blocked with cones and/or red trash containers with sand bags to weight them down. The berm areas still have a lot of snow & moisture that needs to dry up. The North 4 berms are still full of snow & a large drift has filled the area just to the east of the porta potty – about 4′ deep. All this snow will need to melt & dry out.
The area around the Clubhouse has been bladed with Dennis Miller snow blowing one each of Skeet & Trap fields. Big thanks to Dennis!
With the amount of snow/ice all over the range…please encourage members to be patience…. it will be a process to get the berms useable to more than foot traffic.
A reminder that your board of directors meet the second Thursday of every month to address the operations of your Weld County Fish and Wildlife organization. This board works for YOU, the member, and these meetings are open for any current member to attend. We discuss improvements, changes, repairs, events and so much more that makes WCFW such a great organization to be a part of.
In December, we will be having our yearly elections. Half the board is up for re-election every December. This year we have a few spots that are being vacated by Board Members who are leaving for one reason or another. These positions will be filled by WCFW members who are interested in running for these open board positions. Any current member of the range in good standing can run for these positions. That could be YOU. If you are interested in running for the Board positions please contact our secretary to get more information and possibly get your name on the ballot. You would need to come to the December meeting and tell us why you want to run and what you think you can do to help WCFW grow and prosper for its members. There are mandatory conditions to being on the board and our secretary can explain those in more detail.
COME AND VOTE. The board is voted into office by current members. If you want your voice heard, come to the December meeting and cast your vote for the new board positions for the next 2 year term. The board works for you. Make your vote count.
See you on Thursday December 12th for the Election!
Adding Shade To The Range
We all know how hot and windy it can get out at WCFW. Although we are blessed with some grand trees along the ditch and around the entry, we could always use more. As the old saying goes…”The best time to plant a tree is yesterday”. Well, we are beginning the process of creating more shade for the future.
